We all have a bad habit
Some of those we need to break
For ourselves
For our loved ones
For our country
And our future
My work questions some of the habits we are trying to break in our modern lives – the changes facing big business, our government and our people.
Following my artist residency in Denmark, my sculptures reflect upon the notion of wind power versus non-renewable resources and the potential for wind power to make changes within the global landscape.
WORK IN PROGRESS - April 2010
Here is an image of some free-standing works I am preparing. These have been through a gas firing with heavy reduction - with a light spray of salty water beforehand.
I am very happy with the simplicity of these pieces - especially with the addition of the soft reeds.
This piece I completed on my Mum's birthday. She is a very fun Mum ....and I titled this one: 'LOLLIPOPS ARE GOOD FOR YOU!'.
It really is a stray piece running parallel to my other artworks which have a more serious tone. Based on a trip to the beautiful old Tivoli Amusement Fair in Copenhagen, where the lollipops were amazing, this is a colourful rebellion against all things plain, all things conservative and hopefully it challenges any thoughts of self deprivation - I hope it dares you to let go and INDULGE!!
Coming soon may be the sister project called: 'Dark chocolate is good for you!'
Work in progress May 2010 - I have returned to my more 'grown-up' topics...my fascination with the notion of wind energy in Australia grows into a large wall sculpture: 'From Little Things!'
I have been immersed in mini-Aussie shapes all weekend - these are textured with coins from both Australia and Denmark. Wind energy is responsible for quite a lot of kroners in Denmark. I only wish that Australia would put our dollars there too!
The hanging of all these individual porcelain pieces has been carefully mapped out.
They will be wall-mounted in the studio gallery - on black! To contrast this background, I am planning to use a celadon glaze I have made.
Beautiful work Emma!
